बृहदारण्यकोपनिषद् पुस्तकाकार - यह उपनिषद् यजुर्वेद की काण्वीशाखा में वाजसनेय ब्राह्मण के अन्तर्गत है। कलेवर की दृष्टि से यह समस्त उपनिषदों की अपेक्षा बृहत् है तथा अरण्य में, अध्ययन किये जाने के कारण इसे आरण्यक भी कहते हैं। वाॢत्तककार सुरेश्वराचार्य ने अर्थत: इस यथार्थ को स्वीकार किया है। विभिन्न प्रसंगों में वॢणत तत्त्वज्ञान के इस बहुमूल्य ग्रन्थ रत्न पर भगवान् शङ्कराचार्य का सबसे विशद भाष्य है।
