भारतीय सोलह संस्कारों में अन्तिम मरणोत्तर संस्कार श्राद्धकर्म की विशेष महत्ता है। इसके बिना जीव की सद् गति नहीं होती। यद्यपि यह संस्कार पुत्र के द्वारा सम्पादित होता है, किन्तु आज के अनास्था के वातावरण में पले हुए कुछ पुत्र-पौत्र अपने माता-पिता के मरणोत्तर कर्म को सही ढंग से सम्पादित नहीं करते हैं। जो पुत्रवान्  नहीं हैं, उनकी तो बात ही अलग है। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में जीवित श्राद्ध की शास्त्रीय व्यवस्था दी गयी है, जिसके माध्यम से व्यक्ति अपने जीवित रहते ही मरणोत्तर क्रिया का सही सम्पादन करके कर्म-बन्धन से मुक्त हो सके।

Among the sixteen Indian rites, the last posthumous rite, Shraddhakarma, has special importance. Without this there is no proper movement of the living being.
